About Me

Me:

I am a high school English teacher, currently living and working in Virginia.  I grew up in Ohio, and spent my first few years there teaching middle school.  Though I enjoy the south, I will always remain loyal to my Ohio State Buckeyes (OH!).

I am a happy newlywed, and thrilled to have a husband who is as supportive as my Andy.  He shares my love of reading, but sadly, his new career as a medical resident means his "personal reading" time is often curtailed.

When I'm not reading, I also enjoy cycling, skiing, working out, and cooking with Andy.

Reading:

Reading has always been one of my biggest passions.  I've been reading since I was old enough to be taken to the library (which was probably too often for my mother's taste!).  Though my tastes change as the years go on, I have always enjoyed fantasy and science fiction novels.  Recently, I have been drawn to reading YA titles as they have relevance to my job - and they are so fun!  I also read many adult titles, especially as recommended to me by some of my friends who work in the publishing arena.  Much to my students' chagrin, I am also one of those stereotypical English teachers who enjoys the "classics."

Blog:

I was inspired to create this blog out of a desire to share my recommendations with my colleagues and other readers.  I find that as a teacher, I take a different view on YA lit than other bloggers, and I think that view might be helpful to others who are looking for books to add to a classroom library or personal collection.  I come in contact with so many diverse students every day, and I hope to inspire them (and others!) with the joy of reading that is so important to me.

The title is simply an homage to the other love of my life, my dog Indie.  She is a Shetland Sheepdog, and a complete goof.  Though I never thought I would be one of "those people," my dog has absolutely become my fur-child.
